Football Program Continues To Head Upfield

Saturday night under the lights as Stellos has come a long way from last year. After a tough two win season a year ago, our Cardinals are currently vying for a playoff spot. Thanks to the hard work of the players and second-year coach and BG teacher John Trisciani, the future of BG football looks bright.
“We went from a young team a year ago to a team that has a lot of senior leadership,” says Coach Trisciani. “We also had the best participation ever during the off-season which was primarily spent in the weight room. I think players getting bigger and stronger has certainly given them more confidence. They have also invested more in the team and in themselves which has helped tremendously.”

However, all the prep in the offseason didn’t prepare our Cardinals for a huge blow in the preseason. Quarterback Hayden Moses ‘19 tore his ACL in the Queen City Jamboree, ending his season before it even started. However, the team has used the setback to its advantage. “He has remained a key part of our team as a leader,” says Trisciani. “It did however create a next man up mentality.”

The success of the varsity team has helped foster the sub-varsity teams. The seniors have set a positive example and raised the bar for younger players. For example, this year, the freshman team is undefeated when last year there weren’t even enough players to field a team. Overall, we are seeing more investment by the players which is translating to the program’s strength.

Coach Trisciani says being part of the team’s growth has been an awesome experience, from seeing the hard work payoff to higher morale. He is confident the program is building something special and trending in the right direction. And we all agree!
