The Bishop Guertin High School Music Department strives for excellence in performance and music education, providing numerous ensemble opportunities for musicians as well as non-performance-based classes for all BG students. In order to strengthen their musicianship, performers are exposed to a wide variety of styles and genres and are encouraged to participate in multiple ensembles. In addition to the musical benefits of ensemble performance, students also learn communication skills, leadership skills, teamwork, focus, perseverance, hard work, and dedication through their participation. Bishop Guertin’s many musical ensembles serve as the face of the school, performing not only for our school community but for the community at large, where they can be found playing for athletic events, parades, charitable events, music festivals, and other schools. The department is also proud to offer a variety of musical elective classes geared towards assorted previous musical experiences.

The exciting thing about the vocal classes at Bishop Guertin is that they are performance oriented. The students acquire proper vocal technique through learning and performing a variety of musical styles including classical, contemporary a cappella, liturgical, folk and musical theater. Each semester’s study culminates in a performance (Christmas Concert and Spring Pops), as well as an all jazz night club performance in April at the new Red Bird Club, Bishop Guertin’s home for the best in jazz. Students in our choral classes are also allowed the opportunity to audition for the NH All State Jazz and Choral Festivals. We take class trips to perform in other venues as well as field trips to Boston. Students arealso prepped and encouraged to participate in the school’s spring musical.
