Jakob Baker ’23 Named NHFR Defensive Player of the Year
- NH Football Report Release (must be member)
Bishop Guertin Senior Jakob Baker has been named the 2022 New Hampshire Football Report Defensive Player of the Year.
The online publication announced its year-end awards during the holiday break with BG’s Baker tabbed as the best player on the defensive side of the ball in the Granite State. The Pelham native played both defensive end and linebacker in his final season with the Cardinals, proving to be excellent at both.
“I want to thank all my teammates present and past, my coaches, and my parents for helping me achieve this accomplishment,” Baker said. “It was a great ride, and I'm very grateful to receive this award on my last stride. I’m thankful for everything that football has given me to this point.”
Baker’s play helped Bishop Guertin to a 7-2 regular season record and a No. 5 seed in the state playoffs. The Cardinals would take down Dover, 42-14, in the preliminary round, before coming up just short at Pinkerton in the quarterfinals, 14-12.
For his play, Baker was recognized not only with this honor, but also as a First-Team All-State player by the NHFR and a Nashua Telegraph First-Team All-Star selection.
