Dan Conley ’01 Named Head Coach of Boys Hockey

June 16, 2026

NASHUA, N.H. – Bishop Guertin Director of Athletics Ryan Brown has announced that Dan Conley ’01 has been named the head coach of the boys varsity ice hockey team.

A former Cardinal standout and captain, Conley has deep ties to the school and its storied hockey program. Most recently, he served as an assistant coach this past season, helping Bishop Guertin capture the eighth state championship in program history.

He succeeds legendary head coach Gary Bishop and longtime assistant Mark Mantone, who announced their retirements last week following decades of service to the Cardinals.

“I am grateful and excited to be named the Head Coach of the boys hockey program at Bishop Guertin,” Conley said. “As a proud member of the Class of 2001, BG has played an important role in shaping me academically, athletically, and personally.

“Returning last year to join the staff under Coach Bishop and Coach Mantone was incredibly rewarding, and the opportunity to now lead a program that means so much to me and my family is a tremendous honor,” he added.

Conley is no stranger to success in green and gold. A four-year member of the varsity program from 1997 to 2001, he helped lead the Cardinals to a pair of Division I State Championships in both 2000 and 2001. In his senior season, Conley earned NHIAA Division I All-State Second Team honors and was selected as a Senior All-Star, while serving as an alternate captain.

“Choosing to attend Bishop Guertin was one of the best decisions I have ever made, and I hope every player I have the privilege to coach leaves with the same sense of pride, gratitude, and lifelong connection to this school that I have,” Conley said. “I am excited to build upon the tradition of excellence that defines BG Hockey and look forward to working with our student-athletes, families, alumni, and the entire Bishop Guertin community.”

After graduating from BG, Conley played a season with the Lowell Junior Lock Monsters of the Eastern Junior Hockey League before embarking on a four-year career at Salve Regina University. During his time with the Seahawks, he served as a captain for two seasons, recorded 66 career points from the blue line, and earned ECAC All-Academic Team recognition.

Conley’s commitment to excellence in education has continued well beyond his playing days. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from the Massachusetts School of Law at Andover, providing his players with example to follow and succeed on and off the ice.

Conley returned to the game as a coach in 2021, joining the New England Stars organization as a head coach. Last season, he returned to his alma mater to serve alongside Bishop and Mantone, helping guide the Cardinals back to the top of New Hampshire hockey as Bishop Guertin claimed the 2026 Division I Championship with a dramatic 1-0 overtime victory over Concord.

“Dan’s passion for Bishop Guertin and his commitment to developing young men both on and off the ice make him the ideal person to lead our program moving forward,” Brown said. “He understands the tradition and expectations that come with BG Hockey, and we are excited for the future under his leadership.”
