Former NHL Player Tim Schaller Joins BG Boys Hockey as Assistant Coach
June 25, 2026
Bishop Guertin boys hockey head coach Dan Conley has announced the addition of former National Hockey League veteran Tim Schaller to his coaching staff as an assistant coach.
A Merrimack, New Hampshire, native, Schaller retired from professional hockey in 2023 after appearing in 276 NHL regular-season games with the Buffalo Sabres, Boston Bruins, Vancouver Canucks and Los Angeles Kings. Over parts of eight seasons, he totaled 29 goals and 28 assists for 57 points.
His most productive season came with Boston in 2017-18 when he played all 82 games and recorded career highs with 12 goals and 10 assists. Schaller also appeared in 17 Stanley Cup Playoff games during his career, all with the Bruins, tallying one goal and a pair of helpers.
In addition to his NHL career, Schaller played 345 American Hockey League games over seven seasons with five organizations, collecting 68 goals and 84 assists for 152 points.
“I’ve known the Conley family for nearly my whole life, so I was excited to see Dan become the head coach,” Schaller said. “Bishop Guertin has always stood out to me as a classy school with a rich hockey history and a reputation for doing things the right way. It was an easy yes for me to join him behind the bench.”
A native Granite Stater, Schaller is familiar with the region’s hockey climate. After one season at Merrimack High School, he joined the New England Junior Huskies of the Eastern Junior Hockey League, scoring 48 goals over two seasons. He then played four seasons at Providence College from 2009-13, serving as team captain during his senior year and earning Hockey East Defensive Forward of the Year honors in his final season with the Friars.
“Tim was the first call I made after I was named the hockey coach for Bishop Guertin,” Conley said. “His exceptional work ethic and hockey experience are unmatched. I’ve known Tim and his family for years and his character and beliefs align so well with the BG community. He will be an asset to our student-athletes both on and off the ice.”
Schaller began his coaching career in 2024 as an assistant coach at nearby Rivier University and now brings his experience at the highest levels of the game to the Cardinals. He joins a Bishop Guertin program entering a new era under Coach Conley and adds another accomplished hockey mind to a staff committed to developing student-athletes both on the ice and in the classroom.
