Scholarships
Annual and endowed scholarships are made possible through the generous support of Bishop Guertin alumni and friends who have chosen to honor a family member, classmate, mentor, friend, or faculty member. Bishop Guertin offers numerous scholarships throughout the year to incoming freshmen, returning students, and graduating seniors. Please check back often as additional scholarships may be offered throughout the year.
All students, please read each application and fill out all questions needed in order for your application to be eligible.
- All current/returning student applications are due on Monday, March 9, 2026. Late applications will not be accepted.

- All Incoming Freshmen applications are due by Monday, March 23, 2026. Late applications will not be accepted. For incoming freshmen, you must be both accepted to Bishop Guertin and deposited.

Scholarships
FOR INCOMING FRESHMEN
Barowski Family Scholarship ($1,000)
This scholarship was established by the eight children of John (’78) and the late Mary Ann Barowski, who are all BGHS Alumni (’05, ’06, ’07, ’09, ’11, ’15, ’15, ’17). This scholarship is to honor John and Mary Ann and their unwavering commitment to Catholic School education, especially at Bishop Guertin High School.
Criteria: The recipient must be an incoming freshman and plans to participate in an extracurricular activity at BGHS. Through his/her application essay the candidate will explain the importance of Catholic School education in his/her life.
The Cardinal Effect Scholarship ($500)
At the start of the 2023-24 school year, Bishop Guertin President Linda Brodeur introduced “The Cardinal Effect,” highlighting how small actions create meaningful change. The Bishop Guertin community took on the challenge of “Change Starts With Us” encouraging students, faculty and staff to make positive change. Inspired by 2023-24 graduate Gaby Bernard’s gratitude toward Mr. Williams, he established this $500 scholarship for the 2024-25 school year. It will be awarded to an incoming freshman who embodies these values and is dedicated to success at BG.
Criteria: The recipient must be an incoming freshman student that demonstrates the principles of “The Cardinal Effect” through positive actions and a commitment to the well-being of the school community. The ideal student exhibits strong work ethic, perseverance, and a desire to excel academically and personally. Additionally, the recipient should show promise as a leader and a role model for their peers.
The Christopher Griffin ’79 Memorial Scholarship ($1,500)
The Christopher Griffin ’79 Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Bishop Guertin High School graduate, Christopher Griffin, who was a member of the Class of 1979. This scholarship has been made possible through the success and generosity of the Tournament Committee of the annual Christopher Griffin ’79 Memorial Golf Tournament, held every August.
Criteria: Two (2) scholarships will be awarded to incoming freshmen who are committed to his or her studies and when possible, consideration may be given to students who express an interest in the Fine Arts at their current school, or community or who intend to be part of extracurricular activities at BG including but not limited to art, dance, drama, music/band, or theater. This award comes with the expectation that when the recipient is able, he/she will pay it forward and help the next generation of Cardinals.
The Dr. Peter Niarhos ’78 Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2023 by Alexandra ’07, Jacquelyn ’12, and Costas ’14, the loving children of the late Dr. Peter Niarhos ’78. Dr. Niarhos was a driven and ambitious person who believed in the importance of lifelong learning. He also had an appreciation for the sacrifices families make in order to obtain a BG education. Dr. Niarhos shared his value of hard work with his children, firmly believing that a solid education coupled with a motivated mindset leads to opportunities and success. Dr. Niarhos never stopped learning or caring about those in his community.
Criteria: The recipient must be an incoming freshman who exemplifies Dr. Niarhos beliefs and mindset. The recipient must be able to answer the following question and when he or she is able, pay it forward to help the next generation of Cardinals. Question: Describe a goal that was difficult for you to achieve- perhaps it is something you are still working on. What motivates you, even when times are tough and goals seem unreachable?
Elizabeth Croke Love, Laughter & Light Scholarship ($1,000)
This scholarship was established by the friends and family of Elizabeth Croke, BG Class of 2019 who lost her life in a car accident in the spring of 2021. While a student at Bishop Guertin, Lizzy made an impact in and out of the classroom. A quiet and gentle soul by nature, her presence in a room or on the court was always noted. With her contagious laugh and her beautiful smile, Lizzy had the gift of making everyone feel special because she herself saw the very best in everyone. Lizzy was a bright light at Bishop Guertin and she will continue to be a beacon for goodness, compassion, service, and living a joy-filled life.
Criteria: Two (2) recipients will be chosen. The recipients must be incoming freshmen students in good academic standing. The ideal student should be able to display financial needs. When possible, consideration will be given to an active participant in Campus Ministry who is admired and respected by her peers and her teachers. This award comes with the expectation that when the recipient is able, he/she will pay it forward and help the next generation of Cardinals just as Lizzy’s benefactors have done.
Maurice and Joyce Arel Community Service Scholarship ($1,000)
In celebration of their parents’ 65th wedding anniversary, the Arel children are establishing a scholarship in their honor. This scholarship will serve as a lasting tribute to their love, legacy, and the values they’ve instilled in generations of family and community. This scholarship is open to incoming freshmen, returning students and graduating seniors.
Criteria: The recipients must demonstrate effort and commitment to their academic studies regardless of GPA, be involved in community and have a commitment to community service. The ideal candidate should display financial need and answer the question: Please describe your involvement in service activities, the impact you have made within your community, and how these experiences have shaped your values and commitment to giving back. You may also briefly reflect on how you balance service with your academic responsibilities.
The Jeremy Stabile ’93 Memorial Scholarship Application 2025 ($1,500)
In honor of Jeremy, a scholarship fund has been established at Bishop Guertin High School to support students with a passion for writing and communication. Jeremy, a proud 1993 graduate of Bishop Guertin, went on to earn a B.A. in Communication from Boston University and became a talented producer for shows like “Dr. Phil,” “Leeza Gibbons,” and “Donny and Marie.” Known for his generous spirit, devotion to family and friends, and his love of writing, Jeremy’s legacy will inspire future students to pursue their dreams.
Criteria: The recipient must be an incoming freshman student in good academic standing. The ideal student should be able to display financial needs. When possible, consideration will be given to an active participant in school activities such as extracurriculars clubs/activities or athletics team memberships.
Peter Champagne Memorial Scholarship ($1,000)
This scholarship was established in 2022 by friends, family, as well as current and former students following Peter’s unexpected passing. By creating this memorial scholarship, we honor a math teacher who inspired a sense of curiosity in his students. His approach to teaching was engaging, exciting, and effective. Additionally, his willingness to participate in several extracurricular activities provided additional opportunities for students outside the academic day. Peter’s passion for math and his ability to teach the importance of math as a life-long skill helped many students realize a career calling.
Criteria: The recipient must be an accepted and deposited incoming freshman to Bishop Guertin High School and ideally should be able to display financial need. When possible, consideration may be given to students participating in the drama programs or extracurricular math and/or stem programs at their current school or within their community. This award comes with the expectation that when the recipient is able, he/she will pay it forward and help the next generation of Cardinals.
Kailyn’s Gift Scholarship ($1,000)
The LoPilato Family established this scholarship to honor their late infant daughter, Kailyn, who would have been a member of the Class of 2018. This scholarship also serves as a tribute to the education and experiences her brothers received as members of the Classes of 2014, 2020, and 2025.
It is intended to embody the “pay it forward” ideal, as the LoPilato Family has always believed in giving back. Early in life, they could only give their time, but now they are able to provide financial assistance. They deeply believe in all that Bishop Guertin has to offer and feel blessed that their children have been able to attend.
They hope this scholarship will give other families the opportunity to experience the whole-person formation and education that BG provides. This award comes with the expectation that when the recipient is able, they will, in turn, pay it forward.
Criteria: The three (3), $1,000 recipients, must be current freshmen who are students in good standing and who plan to contribute to the overall Bishop Guertin community. The ideal candidates should be able to display financial needs.
This scholarship will be available to the class of 2030 in the fall of 2026
FOR RETURNING STUDENTS
The Anthony M. Ciccone ’10 “Impossible is Nothing” Scholarship ($2,000)
Established in 2020 by his friends, this scholarship was created as a way of honoring Anthony’s life, while keeping his memory alive. A true friend to all, Anthony was loyal, trustworthy, and supportive. He had a great sense of humor, was fun to be around, and could always bring a smile to your face. He touched many lives and taught us all to remember “Impossible is Nothing”.
Criteria: The recipient should have a minimum GPA of 2.5, demonstrate a financial need, and possess all the qualities of a great friend. As Anthony had a passion for all sports, especially soccer, playing from age 5 through college, whenever possible, preference will be given to a student-athlete that participates in the BG soccer program and/or the BG Intramural program without regard for athletic potential. Like all our scholarships, this award comes with the expectation that when the recipient is able, he/she will pay it forward, helping the next generations of Cardinals.
Arthur Bazdanes Memorial Scholarship ($750)
The Arthur Bazdanes Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Arthur “Baz” Bazdanes by the members of the Bazdanes family, coworkers, and friends. “Baz” had been a coach, teacher, Dean, and Vice-Principal at BG for 27 years when he lost his battle with cancer. His family and the BG students always came first. He was kind, compassionate, and patient.
Criteria: A current student who has a 2.5 GPA or better and is involved in his/her community and/or church. Consideration is given to students who are athletic managers/trainers.
Barowski Family Scholarship ($1,000)

Criteria: The recipient must be a returning student entering his/her sophomore, junior, or senior year, plans to participate in an extracurricular activity at BGHS, and holds a minimum GPA of 3.0. Through his/her application essay the candidate will explain the importance of Catholic School education in his/her life.
Br. Euclid J. Beaumont, S.C. Memorial Scholarship ($1,500)
Br. Euclid was the founding principal of Bishop Guertin High School, who passed away on August 10, 1996. It was Br. Euclid’s drive and enthusiasm that oversaw the construction of the bricks and mortar that later became his beloved Bishop Guertin. Br. Euclid leaves a legacy of commitment, pride, and devotion to the school, the community, and to all of those with whom he came in contact. He truly was the spirit of Bishop Guertin.
Criteria: A current junior who has demonstrated commitment, dedication, and loyalty to BGHS.
The Br. Ivy LeBlanc, S.C. Mission and Charism Scholarship ($500)
The Br. Ivy LeBlanc S.C., Mission and Charism scholarship was established by a current teacher after their participation in the PLACE program in Lyon, France. While on the pilgrimage following the footsteps of Fr. Andre Coindre and inspired by the leadership of Br. Ivy during this experience, this scholarship serves to acknowledge and celebrate Br. Ivy’s legacy as a leader within the Brothers of the Sacred Heart network of schools. This award is intended to highlight students who live the life of servant leadership. Rooted in the mission of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart, the scholarship serves to highlight students who are always kind to their peers and serve as a source of light to those around them.
Criteria: The student must be in good standing, actively participate in community service, and is respected by staff and students alike. The recipient must be willing to answer the specific question below.
Question: The Brothers of the Sacred Heart seek to establish a sanctuary for all students within each of their schools. Explain and describe a time when you helped to build a sanctuary for a student or students at Bishop Guertin.
The Br. Larry Beaunoyer Servant Leadership Scholarship ($1,000)
This scholarship has been established by the Fitzgibbons family in gratitude for Br. Larry’s commitment to BG, its students, and to honor the impact he has had on their family. Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded each year to a pair of returning sophomore, junior or senior students at Bishop Guertin High School who are members of the community in good standing. Br. Larry was known for creating a warm and welcoming community whether in his office or in the bookstore. Due to his insistence on inclusion and acceptance of all, he created a sanctuary for his beloved students; a place where all were welcomed. Like Br. Larry, candidates may well be quiet leaders in the building and although they may not have “titles”, they are positive influences in and out of the classroom.
Criteria: Br. Larry truly imbued the ideals of servant leadership, students who apply for this scholarship must be able to demonstrate those ideals – being a friend to all, helping out whenever asked, putting others before self. Candidates must be willing to answer the question below and understand that this award comes with the expectation that when the recipient is able, he/she will pay it forward to help the next generation of Cardinals.
Question: What does it mean to be a servant leader? How have you been that welcoming, helpful and accepting person, especially to those who may be struggling?
Brian Kinney ’91 Memorial Scholarship ($1,000)
This scholarship has been established by John Sullivan ’91, the Bishop Guertin class of 1991, as well as Brian’s family and friends. Brian Kinney was an active student at Bishop Guertin and involved in many clubs, activities, and sports. Most notably, Brian had a passion and love for baseball. In 2001, Brian was working as a manager in the Global Risk Management Solutions at PricewaterhouseCooper LLP, in Boston, Massachusetts. On September 11, 2001, Brian boarded United Airlines Flight 175 in Boston and was bound for Los Angeles to meet with a client. Brian’s flight was hijacked and tragically flown into the World Trade Center’s South Tower on that fateful morning. It is in his memory and his compassion for others that this scholarship has been established.
Criteria: The recipient should have been at Bishop Guertin for at least one year, entering his/her sophomore, junior, or senior year, and must have demonstrated financial need. Ideally, applicants should hold a minimum GPA of 3.0 and be considered a member of the community in good standing, meaning the recipient should represent the core values of Bishop Guertin, both in and out of the classroom. When possible, consideration may be given to a member/participant of the BG Baseball/Softball program, without regard for athletic potential.
Bruce McComish Jr. Memorial Scholarship ($1,000)
This scholarship was established by the McComish Family including alumni, Jeff ’90, in memory of their son & brother, Bruce Jr., who passed away in July of 1998, and had an unfulfilled desire to attend BGHS.
Criteria: A student entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year, has a financial need, maintains a 3.0 GPA, and is a member of an athletic team. If qualified, preference is given to a student from Wilton/Lyndeborough. Consideration will also be given to students who participate in other extracurricular activities (band, etc).
Burke/Bemiss Honorarium ($500)
The Burke/Bemiss Honorarium was established to honor two amazing women. Barbara Bemiss was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Active in her church and always willing to help anyone in need, she was an all-around good person who made a difference. Gertrude Burke raised five children on her own after being widowed at age 48. She has been an inspiration to her children and grandchildren and remains an active part of their lives.
Criteria: A current student with a 3.5 GPA or higher with at least one honors class, participates in athletics either at BG or elsewhere, demonstrates leadership qualities, and participates in random acts of kindness.
Christopher Block ’13 Spirit of the Cardinal Scholarship ($1,500)
This scholarship was established in 2019 by Christopher’s parents, Kristin and Glenn, along with his sister Abigail ’21, and their family and friends. Christopher was a person who embodied the definition of “all in”. A true friend, classmate, teammate, and colleague, he made everyone around him feel special. Chris was a passionate fan of BG and all things Green and Gold. His “joie de vivre” cannot be captured in words but his deeds spoke volumes. It is said that a person’s worth can be measured in their positive impact around them. Christopher left the world a better place and Bishop Guertin High School was the lucky recipient of some of that spirit. We are indeed a better school because of Chris.
Criteria: Two (2) scholarships in the amount of $1,500 each will be awarded. The recipient must be a rising Sophomore, Junior, or Senior who is a member of the Bishop Guertin Community in good standing. The ideal candidate must be willing to answer the question below. This award comes with the expectation that when the recipient is able, he/she will pay it forward and help the next generation of Cardinals.
Christopher Griffin ’79 Memorial Scholarship ($1,500)
The Christopher Griffin ’79 Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of BG graduate Christopher Griffin from the class of 1979. This scholarship has been made possible through the success of the annual Christopher Griffin ’79 Memorial Golf Tournament, held every August, and the generosity of the Tournament Committee.
Criteria: Four (4) scholarships will be awarded. A current Bishop Guertin student with a minimum GPA of 2.5, is committed to his/her studies, has expressed interest in the Fine Arts at BG (art, dance, drama, music, theater), and has a financial need.
Dereck “Chappy” Chaput ’03 Memorial Scholarship ($1,000)
This scholarship has been established by Dereck’s family and friends. Dereck (Chappy) was a beloved student at Bishop Guertin and most notably, he also had a passion and love for ice hockey. He leaves behind a legacy of putting others’ needs before his own and is recognized for his ability to bring out the best in everyone. Dereck’s passion for life will be memorialized through the recipient of this scholarship. It is in his memory and his compassion for others that this scholarship has been established.
Criteria: The recipient of this scholarship should be a current student, having attended Bishop Guertin for at least one year, entering his/her sophomore, junior, or senior year. Ideally, applicants should be considered members of the community in good standing, meaning the recipient should represent the core values of Bishop Guertin, both in and out of the classroom. When possible, consideration may be given to a member/participant of the BG hockey or lacrosse program, without regard for athletic potential.

The Gerald R. Prunier Scholarship Fund ($5,000)
Gerald R. Prunier was a beloved leader in the greater Nashua community and a proud supporter of Bishop Guertin High School. As a respected attorney and community leader, Gerald exemplified values such as faith, courage, and commitment throughout his life. The Fund will support BGHS students who demonstrate these qualities, enabling them to further their education and make a meaningful impact on their school and community.
The Gerald R. Prunier Scholarship Fund honors a remarkable legacy of leadership, resilience, and community commitment. The three students who receive $5,000 will continue this tradition, contributing positively to their school and community while pursuing their academic and personal growth.
Criteria: Applicants must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher, demonstrate interest in leadership, humanities, athletics, and community service. In addition, applicants mut participate in at least one extracurricular activity and preference is given to students with consistent involvement in at least one athletic season as either an athlete or a team manager. Students must submit one letter of recommendation and an essay submission that consists of 4-5 paragraphs. See details below (in google form).
Gerry and Christina Millett Memorial Scholarship ($500)
Established in memory of Gerry and Christina Millett of Castlebar, Ireland, this scholarship honors their legacy of hard work, humility, and compassion. They believed in uplifting others through perseverance, generosity, and quiet strength.The scholarship supports students who reflect these values through dedication, resilience, and meaningful support of their communities—whether through service, caregiving, or being a steady presence for others.
Criteria: The student must be in good standing and one who actively participates in community service and is respected by staff and students alike. The recipient must be willing to answer the specific question:
Question: Explain and describe a time when you cared for and uplifted a member or members of the Bishop Guertin community.
Goyette Family Scholarship ($1,000)
This scholarship was established by the Goyette family to honor Victor and Anita Goyette, who had a great love for Catholic education and in particular for Bishop Guertin High School.
Criteria: The scholarship is awarded to a BG student, who is a practicing Catholic from NH, who is enrolled in upper-level French classes, and who demonstrates service and commitment to others. Preference is given to a student in financial need.
Greater Nashua Knights of Columbus Scholarship ($500)
This scholarship was established by various Knights of Columbus councils in the greater Nashua area to support their family members who attend Bishop Guertin High School.
Criteria: The Scholarship is awarded to the child or grandchild of a Knight in good standing from one of the participating Councils, who is a practicing Catholic and who demonstrates financial need. Applicants may verify their father/grandfather’s eligibility status with a letter or email from the Financial Secretary of the participating Council.
Jodi A. Kemos Memorial Scholarship ($1,000)
The Jodi A. Kemos Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Jodi Kemos, and has been made possible by the success of the Jodi Kemos Memorial Golf Tournament held in September and the generosity of the Kemos family.
Criteria: Four (4) scholarships are available to returning student-athletes whose family is struggling with an unexpected hardship. Preference will be given to students with a 3.0 GPA or higher, who are involved in wrestling, football, or lacrosse.
Kathleen Milan M’81 Memorial Scholarship ($1,000)
This scholarship was established in 1993 in memory of Kathleen Milan, a graduate of Mount Saint Mary Seminary in Nashua.
Criteria: Two (2) scholarships, a young man and a young woman, currently juniors or seniors, who have demonstrated involvement in student government, and service to peers and others, particularly the less fortunate.
Keith Audette ’92 Memorial Scholarship ($1,000)
The Keith Audette ’92 Memorial Scholarship was established by the family and friends of Keith Audette, who passed away unexpectedly in February 2011. Keith was an active student who was involved in a variety of clubs, teams, and activities. He was a member of the National Honor Society, played soccer and basketball, participated in the Key and Foreign Language Clubs, and was involved with the Cardinal Crosier (monthly student news).
Criteria: A continuing BG student who is able to provide evidence of academic achievement of a 3.0 GPA or better, has financial need, and is a contributing member of the school community, with consideration given to members of BG’s athletic teams.
Coach Leo Koch Family Memorial Scholarship ($1,000)
This scholarship was established in 2019 in honor of Leo Koch, former Mount Saint Mary, and Bishop Guertin Women’s Soccer Coach and State Champion. This scholarship was created by the daughters of Leo Koch; Kristan Koch MSMS ’87, Heather Koch Palmer, MSMS ’89, Stephanie Koch Dinunzio, BG/MSMS ’93 along with their mom, Carol Koch. Widely respected for his expertise in the game of soccer, his understanding of the term “student-athlete” and his belief in the empowerment of female athletes are his greatest contributions (legacies). Coach Koch insisted that his female athletes presented themselves in the highest regard – representing the core values of Mount Saint Mary and Bishop Guertin both in the classroom and on the field. A true proponent of sportsmanship, his teams were renowned for hard play and respect for opponents. He fostered a spirit of strength and independence with his female athletes believing that worth and importance are not based on gender but rather on heart and determination.
Criteria: The recipient must be a current student who is held in good standing and who plans to contribute to the overall Bishop Guertin community. Ideal candidates should be able to display financial needs and be willing to fill out the application form. When possible, consideration may be given to a member/participant of the BG soccer program, without regard for athletic potential. This award comes with the expectation that when the recipient is able, he/she will pay it forward.
Lorraine A. Hamilton Scholarship ($2,500)
This scholarship was established by the family of Lorraine Alice Hamilton, a Board Member and active volunteer both in and out of Bishop Guertin High School for many years. Lorraine was an emergency and critical care nurse as well as a trained social worker. She lived her life serving others and was often referred to as an “angel among us”. Continually giving to others, Lorraine shared her healing heart and hands with those in need both near and far. Both of Lorraine’s sons, Ryan Hamilton ’97 and Todd Hamilton ’01 are graduates of Bishop Guertin. Although Lorraine was a compassionate nurse who went above and beyond the care a nurse typically provides, she will be especially remembered as a true and valued friend. With her graceful demeanor, devoted attention, and her gift for actively listening to others, she was a friend for life. She was a kind individual who chose to focus on the gifts and talents of each person she touched. Lorraine’s passing was an enormous loss to all who knew and loved her; however, her legacy and the life lessons she taught us will forever help and encourage the next generation of healthcare providers.
Criteria: A scholarship in the amount of $2,500 will be awarded to a returning student who must be a current student in good academic standing. Maurice and Joyce Arel Community Service Scholarship ($1,000)
In celebration of their parents’ 65th wedding anniversary, the Arel children are establishing a scholarship in their honor. This scholarship will serve as a lasting tribute to their love, legacy, and the values they’ve instilled in generations of family and community. This scholarship is open to incoming freshmen, returning students and graduating seniors.
Criteria: The recipients must demonstrate effort and commitment to their academic studies regardless of GPA, be involved in community and have a commitment to community service. The ideal candidate should display financial need and answer the question: Please describe your involvement in service activities, the impact you have made within your community, and how these experiences have shaped your values and commitment to giving back. You may also briefly reflect on how you balance service with your academic responsibilities.
Mount Saint Mary Alumnae Scholarship ($500)
This scholarship was established by the alumnae of Mount Saint Mary Seminary (MSMS) as a way to help remind the young women of BG that they are a part of the legacy of MSMS. The scholarship also honors the school itself, the Sisters, and all the alumnae who graduated from “The Mount”. This scholarship is in recognition of the gift of Mount Saint Mary’s in the lives of alumnae and in the young women of Bishop Guertin High School today.
Criteria: A young woman, who must provide evidence of academic achievement of a 3.0 GPA or better, an earnest heart with a desire to perform good works for the less fortunate in her community, commitment to her Faith, and bold commitment to advancing and enhancing the role of women in her school, community and place of worship.
O-Sensei Lou Desmarais Memorial Scholarship ($500)
This scholarship was established by IMAS Foundation and the Genest and Desmarais Families.
Criteria: Applicants must be a student entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year, who maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0. Applicants must be involved in their home community as well as at school. Applicants must demonstrate service to others such as: volunteering at a local non-profit, involvement in BG’s Campus Ministry, and has a financial need (must have applied for Financial Aid at BGHS). When possible, consideration may be given to an art student or a wrestler.
Sarah Ann Atkinson Memorial Scholarship ($1,000)
The Sarah Ann Atkinson Memorial Scholarship was established to honor the life of Sarah A. Atkinson. Sarah was one of five Atkinson children to attend Bishop Guertin. Despite dealing with dire health issues, Sarah’s strength and delightfully cheerful spirit demonstrated a commitment to achievement and resolve to experience a sense of normalcy in her life. By establishing this scholarship, the Atkinson family has memorialized Sarah’s legacy as one of lending a helping hand to others facing significant hardships.
Criteria: The recipient must be a student entering his/her sophomore, junior, or senior year, who has been at BG for at least one year, is in good standing, and holds a minimum GPA of 2.5. Through his/her unique application, a candidate must demonstrate how he/she has overcome some personal challenges to succeed at Bishop Guertin.
Shalom Scholarship ($2,000)
The Shalom scholarship, established by Br. Al, memorializes a man who dedicated many years to Bishop Guertin High School. Br. Al gave support and assistance with his words and actions to thousands in this community, so too will his memory serve those recipients who continue their BG education.
Criteria: Ten (10) returning students are selected who are dedicated and loyal and promise to assist a future BG student in need when they become adults and have the financial means to make a contribution to this or another BG scholarship.
Shawn McGivern ’86 Memorial ($1,500)
This scholarship was established by the McGivern family in memory of their son and brother, Shawn, a Class of ’86 alumni who died after a bout with Leukemia in 1991.
Criteria: A $1,500 scholarship will be awarded each year to a returning sophomore, junior or senior student at Bishop Guertin High School who is a registered and active member of the Immaculate Conception Parish in Nashua, NH. The student must be active in their parish, their local community and be one who contributes to the BG community as well, demonstrating values congruent with BGHS. The students shall also display a financial need. If there is a tie at the time of choosing a recipient, extra consideration will be given to the student who has endured a life changing medical event, either his/her own or within their immediate family. This award comes with the expectation that when the recipient is able, he/she will pay it forward to help the next generation of Cardinals.
Suzi Jozokos Memorial Scholarship ($1,000)
This scholarship was established by the friends and family of Mark (BG ’87) and Suzi (MSMS ’88) in the fall of 2019. Mark and Suzi, high school sweethearts, he was on the football team and she was a cheerleader for his team. Together they embodied the true definition of love, family, friends, and faith. When Suzi suffered a massive stroke, the Jozokos family received training so they could bring Suzi home to recover. Although Suzi eventually lost her battle, her courage, resiliency, and determination are what we honor through this scholarship. Her story, their story, is one of overcoming odds, of never giving up, and of the power of love and faith.
Criteria: The recipient must be a current student in good academic standing. The ideal student should be able to display financial needs. When possible, consideration may be given to a member or participant of the BG football or cheerleading program, without regard for athletic potential. This award comes with the expectation that when the recipient is able, he/she will pay it forward and help the next generation of Cardinals.
Vivian Rowe Diversity & Inclusion Scholarship Inspired by Molly Arel ’22 ($1,000)
This scholarship was established by Vivian’s Loving Family to Honor her Legacy as well as acknowledge her Granddaughter, a 2022 graduate, and the impact she made on the entire Bishop Guertin High School community. The award is intended to highlight students who live the life of servant leadership – in word and deed. Deeply rooted in the Mission of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart, the scholarship serves to recognize students who are always kind to their peers and serve as a beacon of light to those who may feel marginalized by the world. The students honored by this scholarship see others for their unique gifts and talents rather than their differences.
Criteria: The recipients must be students in good standing, who actively participate in community-based services as well as exhibit a kindhearted, compassionate and supportive demeanor toward all people. The recipient must be willing to answer the question below and understand it also comes with the expectation that, when the recipients are able, they will pay it forward to help the next generation of Cardinals find their true potential.

Wagner Family Scholarship ($2,500)
The Wagner Family created this scholarship to provide financial assistance to current Bishop Guertin students, with special consideration given to students from Pelham, NH. The primary focus will be to assist families who demonstrate financial need or who are experiencing personal hardship so as to find themselves unable to fully meet their tuition obligations.
Criteria: Four (4), $2,500 scholarships will be awarded. The Financial support provided through this fund is meant to animate the spirituality of the Heart of Christ through compassion, attention, affection, and respect for the individual, building a sanctuary for those in need. Throughout their history, The Brothers of the Sacred Heart have always held a special place in their hearts for those in financial need, providing those students access to a high level of education and a strong Christian and Catholic formation. Inspired by the Brothers of the Sacred Heart’s mission, “To rescue the young from ignorance, to prepare them for life, and to give them a knowledge and love of religion,” The Wagner Family Scholarship supports this long tradition of care and concern for those in financial need. This award comes with the expectation that when the recipient is able, he/she will pay it forward and help the next generation of Cardinals.
William Soucy Scholarship ($500)
The William Soucy Scholarship was established by his wife in William’s memory who worked for the former Alexander’s Market.
Criteria: A returning student dedicated and loyal to BGHS and is in good academic standing with a 3.0 G.P.A. or higher.
FOR GRADUATING SENIORS
Adam R. Goodsell Memorial Scholarship 2025 Application ($1,000)
Adam R. Goodsell graduated from Bishop Guertin High School in the spring of 2000. He was passionate about Science and Chemistry. He had the opportunity to come back to BG early on in his career to speak to a Senior Chemistry class and was motivated by the talent and interest he saw in the students that day. His love for learning & helping others as well as his BGHS education and athletics inspired the Goodsell Family to create a scholarship to support the BGHS community.
Criteria: A graduating senior who has is majoring in the sciences and has been an outstanding student maintaining a 3.0 GPA or higher. The recipient should demonstrate involvement in school activities such as extracurricular clubs/activities or athletic team memberships and display financial need. In your essay please explain your involvement at BG, intended major and career aspirations.
Apex Oral Surgery Scholarship ($1,000)
The Apex Oral Surgery Scholarship was established in 2022 by Dr. Torio, Decoteau, Burk, Madden, and Farr who are all board certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons with practices in Nashua and Bedford, New Hampshire. This scholarship is being offered with the hopes of assisting young people who aspire to go into the field of science, healthcare, or dentistry.
Criteria: The applicant must be a graduating senior who plans to attend a university, community college, or vocational school. Applicants should be considered members of the community in good standing, meaning the recipient should represent the core values of Bishop Guertin High School, and demonstrate personal integrity and overall concern for others. This award comes with the expectation that when the recipient is able, he/she will pay it forward to help the next generation of Cardinals.
Captain John A. Ogonowski Scholarship ($500)
This scholarship, established by the Ogonowski Family, is awarded in memory of Capt. John A. Ogonowski; one of the pilots who died in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Mr. Ogonowski was the parent of two BG students at the time, both of whom are now successful graduates.
Criteria: A graduating senior who has contributed to the BG community throughout his/her high school years but who may not gain recognition in other forums. He/she is hardworking, honest, consistent, positive and a contributing member of the school community in spite of significant personal challenges. That personal challenge may involve the loss of a parent or other significant or life-changing event through which the person grew, matured, and succeeded. Please include your personal challenge in your essay.
Kalil & Kress Family and Cosmetic Dentistry Scholarship ($1,000)
The Kalil & Kress Family and Cosmetic Dentistry Scholarship was established by Dr. Michelle Kalil ’10 and The Kalil Family to support students pursuing a career in dentistry.
Criteria: One, $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior who has contributed to the BG community and has held a GPA of 3.0 or higher. The recipient should be pursuing a degree in dentistry.
Lorraine A. Hamilton Scholarship ($2,500)
This scholarship was established by the family of Lorraine Alice Hamilton, a Board Member and active volunteer both in and out of Bishop Guertin High School for many years. Lorraine was an emergency and critical care nurse as well as a trained social worker. She lived her life serving others and was often referred to as an “angel among us”. Continually giving to others, Lorraine shared her healing heart and hands with those in need both near and far. Both of Lorraine’s sons, Ryan Hamilton ’97 and Todd Hamilton ’01 are graduates of Bishop Guertin. Although Lorraine was a compassionate nurse who went above and beyond the care a nurse typically provides, she will be especially remembered as a true and valued friend. With her graceful demeanor, devoted attention, and her gift for actively listening to others, she was a friend for life. She was a kind individual who chose to focus on the gifts and talents of each person she touched. Lorraine’s passing was an enormous loss to all who knew and loved her; however, her legacy and the life lessons she taught us will forever help and encourage the next generation of healthcare providers.
Criteria: One scholarship for $2,500 will be awarded to a graduating senior who must be a student in good standing, who has been accepted into a 2-or 4-year college with a declared major in the healthcare field, or demonstrated interest in the healthcare industry.

Michael J. O’Mara Unsung Hero Scholarship ($1,000)
This scholarship was established in 2019 by Michael’s parents, Jim and Patti, along with his siblings, Alyssa ’03, Patrick, and Shannon. Michael was one of those people who lived a servant’s heart. A true friend, classmate, teammate, and colleague, he tended to shy away from the limelight, preferring that his contributions were made quietly. This scholarship is designed to honor those students who, like Michael, made their community, their team, and or their activity better without seeking attention or credit. Integral members of their community, are often unrecognized but never unnoticed because of their warmth, their passion, and their talent. Unsung heroes contribute to their world for the betterment of their world, not for the advancement of their own notoriety.
Criteria: The $1,000 will be awarded to a graduating senior who is planning to attend a two- or four-year university. The ideal candidate must be willing to answer the question below. This award comes with the expectation that when the recipient is able, he/she will pay it forward and help the next generation of Cardinals.
MRB “perfick” Foundation Memorial Scholarship ($1,500)
This scholarship was established by the children of Robert and Marlene Burke, and their grandchildren, Mitchell Burke, Bishop Guertin Class of 2013, and Sophie Adair, Bishop Guertin Class of 2019. Both parents, mom a 40-year teacher and dad, a community leader, small business entrepreneur, and great golfer lived a life of servant leadership – in word and indeed. Deeply rooted in Christian virtues, they instilled the values of Faith, Family, Philanthropy, and Forgiveness in their children. Both were firm believers in second chances and overcoming adversity, championing the underdog. This scholarship will honor those students who have overcome significant challenges and who plan to major in education or a similar field of study.
Criteria: A scholarship of $1,500 will be awarded to one graduating senior who will take those core values into their teaching career. Ideal candidates should be able to display financial needs and be willing to answer the question below. This award comes with the expectation that when the recipient is able, he/she will pay it forward and help the next generation of Cardinals.
Swetha Donepudi Memorial Scholarship ($1,000)
Swetha, BGHS class of 2020, was a bright and driven student with a profound interest in science, engineering, design, and related disciplines. Her enthusiasm for STEM was evident not only in her academic pursuits but also in her engagement with extracurricular activities that reflected her creative and analytical spirit. This scholarship honors her legacy by supporting students who embody similar interests and aspirations.
Criteria: A graduating senior who has is majoring in the sciences and has been an outstanding student maintaining a 3.0 GPA or higher. The recipient should demonstrate an interest in pursuing further education or a career in STEM through demonstrated coursework and involvement in school activities such as extracurricular clubs/activities.
