Boys Soccer Wins State Title in Double OT

MANCHESTER, N.H. — There’s no doubt sophomore Nick Chartier scored the biggest goal of the 2025 season for the Bishop Guertin boys soccer team on Saturday night (Nov. 7) at Manchester Memorial’s Chabot McDonough Field.

The only question now might be: Was it the biggest goal in program history?

Chartier was in the right place at the right time during stoppage time of the second overtime in the Division I State Championship, pouncing on a loose rebound and blasting it into the top corner of the net to secure the title.

The golden goal delivered Bishop Guertin its fifth state championship — and first since 2004 — ending a two-decade drought in dramatic fashion.

The drought-ending moment came at the expense of cross-town rival Nashua South, the tournament’s No. 1 seed. The Panthers had survived a pair of 2-1 playoff victories over Exeter and Windham, only to fall short against the Cardinals in another one-goal thriller.

For BG, the championship capped off a remarkable turnaround. Just two seasons ago, the Cardinals won only two games total, a number they matched and surpassed in this year’s postseason alone. Across four playoff contests, BG didn’t allow a single goal, posting shutouts of Pinkerton (2-0), Hanover (1-0, PKs), and Bedford (2-0) before sealing the 1-0 title win over Nashua South in extra time.

Senior Beau Boughter stood tall between the posts throughout the Cardinals’ playoff run, capping his high school career with a championship shutout. Still, it was a total team effort across all three areas of the field that made BG so formidable: disciplined defensively and opportunistic offensively when it mattered most.

Congratulations to the 2025 Bishop Guertin boys soccer team, who now join the 1986, 1987, 1997, and 2004 squads in having their championship etched forever on the walls of Collignon Gymnasium.
