The Arts

MUSIC

From the beautiful vocal nuances of the Honors Choir to the soulful sounds of the Jazz Ensemble, music thrives at Bishop Guertin. With six large performing groups, including a string orchestra, students are exposed to a wide variety of styles and genres and are encouraged to participate in multiple ensembles.

Performing not only for our school community, but for the community at large, our student-musicians can be found playing at athletic events, parades, charitable events, music festivals, and other schools. As a whole, the Music Department combines to offer more than 40 performances throughout each school year.

For the non-performer, BG offers various elective classes, including the basics of music theory, the history of popular music, music technology, and guitar courses.

STUDIO ARTS

“In the Fine Arts Department’s Visual Art classes, we teach students that they do not need to “be able to draw a straight line” to create art. Our curriculum starts with basic techniques and creative projects that allow the student to have a learning experience that is a break from their more academic classes. Courses are available through four levels from Art I to AP Art and include alternative classes such as pottery, photography and computer-based art. Students learn more than how to make art. They learn to trust in the process of self-discovery, to solve problems and to understand that mistakes are an important part of learning.”
