Meet the Class of 2025 Valedictorian Matthew Roma
Earlier this month at Bishop Guertin’s annual Scholar’s Breakfast — an event recognizing members of the senior class who have achieved stellar academic benchmarks — several students were honored for their exceptional academic performance over four years. Among them, senior Matthew Roma was announced as the valedictorian for the Bishop Guertin Class of 2025.
Now on the cusp of graduation, Roma reflected on his time at Bishop Guertin, sharing insights about himself, his future plans, and the experiences that have helped shape who he is today.
Hometown:
My hometown is Tyngsboro, Massachusetts, a beautiful town along the Merrimack, but I have also lived in California.
Previous school:
I attended Presentation of Mary Academy in Hudson.
College attending:
I will be attending Georgetown University beginning in Fall 2025.
Planned Area of Study:
I intend to study environmental science or mathematics, but will take advantage of Georgetown’s liberal arts curriculum to help narrow my focus.
How did Bishop Guertin prepare you for college?:
Bishop Guertin prepared me for college by applying constant course rigor which required me to maintain discipline. I also felt that the faculty were always available and willing to help me improve my understanding of topics, which has made me prepared for college.
Your most memorable BG experience:
My most memorable BG experience is definitely going wading in Salmon Brook with friends during Field Ecology and getting absolutely soaked and muddy.
Your clubs and activities:
I was active in Men’s Faith Formation, the Film Club, the Ski Club, Boy Scouts, National Honors Society, and with the soccer and volleyball teams.
A final thought that encompasses your BG experience:
My Bishop Guertin experience is not defined by my academics, but by my interactions with others. Over these past four years, I have formed many lifelong friendships and have come to see BG as a second home. Regardless of where the future takes me, I know I will always be welcome at BG, and for that I am eternally grateful.
