Community Mourns the Loss of Former Teacher Miriam “Mim” Hawking

On December 23rd, former teacher Mrs. Miriam “Mim” Hawking passed away after a courageous 10 year battle with Alzheimer's. A teacher at BG from 1992 to 2010 and wife of Theology teacher Robert Hawking, Mim died surrounded by family. 

 

"Miriam Hawking was one of the brightest, most perceptive teachers I ever worked with," said President Linda Brodeur. "She truly knew her students and was gifted at understanding how adolescents learn." 
 
Mrs. Hawking earned her BA in Theology and Philosophy, as well as an MA in Religious Education, from Creighton University. She also earned a Diploma in Ministry Studies from Notre Dame College. Joining BG following its merger with Mt. Saint Mary Seminary, Mim was a beloved member of the Bishop Guertin family. She served not only as a teacher, but at one time both a department chair and campus minister. All who knew her spoke of her wonderful spirit and giving nature.
